Abishek Nair hit a quickfire 40 and took 1wicket as YTCA Juniors won the Under 11 Tournament in Durham. The team defeated Washington CC in the final played at the Washington Cricket Ground in Durham yesterday. Captain Rahul Nambiar also played a key role with an innings of 22 and took 2 crucial wickets.

YTCA batted first and scored a very impressive 156 in their 30 overs. Hrithik scored a classy 21 while Shashwik Shetty scored a quick 29 before he was out. This put some pressure on the YTCA innings but Rahul and Abhishek steadied the innings with some disciplined batting. Adil Ali also chipped in with 13.

In reply – Washington CC lost a wicket of the first ball bowled by Rahul.  J Singh and M Brown batted well to score 22 and 49 but an accurate spell of bowling by Rahul with 2 for 25 and Abhishek Nair with 1 wicket put the total out of reach as Washington finished with 136 for 6 in 30 overs.Shashwik also took 1 wicket. Akash and Moosa Shazad fielded well for the YTCA team.

In an earlier semi final match – YTCA defeated Philadelphia CC to enter the final.

Coach Vishan Fernando and Director YTCA Shahzad Altaf were very pleased with the performance of the young boys. The trophies were presented by Dr Rajkumar of Unicare Medical Centre – one of the sponsors and Allen Clarke – one of the top umpires in Durham in the presence of a large local crowd of spectators and parents.
